This building is located in the middle of Mayfair, near Bond Street tube station. Our client had recently purchased this existing 1930s office block and wanted to convert it into four high-end residential apartments.
Our initial involvement was to assist Wolff Architects in gaining planning permission for an additional two-storey penthouse extension on top of the existing building. We undertook in-depth structural investigations on the existing structural frame, along with material testing to verify the type of frame and existing strength.
The client wanted to maximise floor-to-ceiling heights for all elements of the building, therefore it was key to use innovative solutions to ensure that the structural depth of the floor plates were at an absolute minimum. This required a high level of understanding and analysis of the existing structure so that we could confirm the capacity of the building to support the new penthouse.
